General

We want to emphasis the emptiness of the ship by not using background music and make use of environmental sound tracks instead. The environmental sound changes depending on the environment the player is in. The three environments are:

  1. The inside of the ship,
  2. Under water,
  3. and the outside of the ship (Upper deck).

Each of these environments has it’s own ambient soundtrack that will switch when the player transitions between the environments.

Inside the ship

The ambient sound for the inside of the ship is supposed to be eerie and make the player feel unwell in the environment they are in. It is supposed to raise the level or anxiety as well as the need to escape from this place as fast as you can.

Under water

The under water ambient sound should remind the player of what it sounds like under water. The sound of the ocean, waves crashing into the shore or in our case into the walls of the ship, and the bubbles from the mouth of the slowly drowning character.

Upper deck

The ambient sound of the upper deck has a warmer tone to it. The player hears waves crashing against the (still sinking) ship, the call of birds (who are currently eating the remains of some passengers), and some other noises that you usually hear on the shore, like a giant kraken coming out of the water.. or maybe not?
