The level is designed to be a ship that has started to sink into the ocean after it crashed into a giant rock. Therefore, some parts of the ship are already filled and continue filling with water. The ship has 4 decks, which off three decks are inside and one is the upper deck which is located outside and marks the final destination for the character.

Level flow

The player is starts in the main staircase room (red circle) and needs to reach the upper deck (red arrow). Therefore, the player needs to use open the door to their left to flood the staircase room with water which makes them reach the staircase and their next area. In here the player is faced for the first time with the challenge of keeping their breath for a long time as they need to dive through a large body of water to reach the next area. Crates are blocking the players way to make it harder to proceed and the player needs to slow down and tactically use the air pockets to refill their oxygen bar.

Reaching the top of this, the player is able to reach a bigger area of the game as well as backtrack to the starting area which is now filled with more water. Moving further through the ship will eventually bring the player to the captain’s cabin, where they will find the key for the door in “The Brig”.

In there, the player will also find a flare they can use at the end point of the game to call for help and hopefully escape the sinking ship. Moving further the player discovers a way up but no staircase that leads there. To reach that point they need to proceed to the engine room and open up the room, which will flood the area the player is in, so that the player is able to continue and reach their final destination, the outside deck.

Interior

The interior of the ship is based on a ship from the 1930’s. A lot of debris is laying or floating around as crew member and passengers have left their belongings behind to safe their lives and parts of the ship have been broken due to the unnatural event.

Crates are placed to hinder but also support the player during their exploration of the ship. They can either hinder the player to proceed and slow them down or they can be used as help to reach another area of the ship by using them as a sort of ladder.
